Every cover names a source. The ladder is ordered by what the choice costs you.

Balance ranks ways out: free cash → spare money → next month’s reserve → lifestyle going short → emergency fund → a priced card carry → an essential going short. Interest is never offered without an APR, and a card never sorts above the debt-free rungs.

Each row states what it leaves behind. If a choice cannot finish the job, it is not offered as if it could.
